Police Blotter: A bank robbery, a purse snatching and 3 shootings

Crime is down more than 20 percent in both precincts for the month, compared to this same time last year

79th Precinct

CompStat report covering 2/7/11 - 2/13/11: Last week, the 79th Precinct experienced a 21 percent decrease in crime (19 vs 24), compared to this same time last year. For the past month, the 79th precinct has experienced a 21 percent overall decrease in crime (96 vs 122), compared to last year at this same time. 

Bank Robbery

On Monday, February 7, at 12:20 pm, a black male in a disguise entered the Apple bank located at 414 Flushing Avenue, displayed a silver firearm and demanded money from the bank clerk. The male fled in an unknown direction. Investigation continues.  

Purse Snatching

On Wednesday February 9, at 12:40 am, a female had her purse snatched while walking eastbound on Jefferson Ave from Franklin Ave. Perpetrator described as a Male Black in his mid 20's approximately 6"0 tall with a thin build wearing a black jacket and a baseball hat. Investigation is ongoing.  

Stabbing

On Saturday, February 12, at 7:10 pm, a female was stabbed in her arm by a male perpetrator while she was inside 404 Nostrand Ave. The investigation continues.  

Shooting

On Sunday, February 13, at 8:10 pm, an 18-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder on the corner of Marcy and Gates Avenues. Investigation into this shooting continues by the 79th Precinct Detective Squad. 

 

81st Precinct  

CompStat report covering 1/31/11 - 2/6/11: Crime is down in the 81st Precinct for the week, 21 percent, compared to last year at this same time (19 vs. 24). Crime is down 25 percent for the past month, compared to this same time last year (73 vs. 97); and it is down 14 percent for the year so far, compared to this same time last year (108 vs. 125).

Robberies, assaults and auto thefts are down. Larcenies are up 25 percent. Burglaries, murders and rapes are the same.

2 Shootings

On February 9, at 2:30 am, a 27-year-old black male was shot 6 times and killed in front of 50 Stuyvesant. There are no major leads, and the detective squad is still investigating the incident.

On February 12, at 3:55 am, at a catering hall on 89 Ralph Avenue, 3:55 am, a fight broke out at a 50th birthday celebration. A 35-yr-old black male tried to break up fight. One shot was fired into the crowd and the man interening in the fight was hit once in the stomach. He is in stable condition. An investigation is ongoing.

Gun Arrest

On February 13, at 2:45 pm, police officers in the 81st precinct responded to a domestic dispute at 678 Hancock Street. The pepetrator was found to have two fire arms in his possession and was arrested.
