At least five reported shooting incidents over the 4th of July weekend, all within the 79th Precinct of Bed-Stuy

There were at least five reported shooting incidents (more were reported, but details are still pending) over the 4th of July weekend in Bedford-Stuyvesant, all within the confines of the 79th Precinct.

July 5

Man Shot, Killed on Jefferson Ave Friday Night On Friday, July 5, at around 11:55 p.m., police were called to 478 Jefferson Avenue between Throop Ave and Marcus Garvey Blvd regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival, police found a man, 29, at the scene with multiple gunshots to his chest and arms. The man was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Two Pedestrians Shot on Hancock Street On Friday, July 5, at around 2:30 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was shot twice in the leg, and a 29-year-old man was shot once in the chest by an unknown gunman, as they both were walking down Hancock Street near Jefferson Avenue. Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital and are listed in stable condition. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Man Shot and Killed for Refusing to Speak On Friday, July 5, at around 9:50 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot and killed by an unknown perpetrator in front of 478 Jefferson Avenue. According to reports, the shooter -- who was unknown to the victim -- attempted to engage the victim in a conversation. When the victim refused to speak, the perpetrator pulled out a gun and shot three rounds into the victim's chest. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


July 6

Four Shot, One Dead at Marcy Houses  On Saturday, July 6, at around 6:40 p.m., police reported four victims of a multiple shooting at 472 Marcy Avenue, including an 18-year-old man identified as Mario Lopez, who died from gunshot wounds to his chest and three other teen victims who remain in stable condition. There are no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.


July 7

Two Bystanders Shot While Waiting for Bus  On Sunday, July 7, at around 2:18 a.m., two innocent bystanders where shot while waiting for the B15 Bus. According to police reports, both victims -- an 18-year-old female and a 22-year-old man -- were standing at the B15 bus stop at Marcus Garvey Blvd and Putnam Avenue when they heard several gun shots and then began to feel pain. The woman realized she had been shot in her left calf, and the man has been shot once in the right buttocks. Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital where they were treated and remain in stable condition. There are no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
