Crime is down in the 79th and 81st Pcts, compared to this same time last year.

79th Precinct

Inspector Peter J. Bartoszek says crime is down 7.5 percent in his precinct for the month of January.

On January 28th, at 3:30 pm, Benjamin Moore Paint Store, located at 420 Tompkins Avenue was robbed. Three males entered the store with a gun and robbed the store and its patrons of their belongings. One male possessed a firearm. There is no description for the perpetrators, as all three men wore masks.

On January 25th, at 6:30 pm, at a bodega located at 1125 Fulton Street, a female perpetrator attempted to steal ice cream. When the store employee attempted to stop her, she pulled a sharp object and slashed him in the face. Police arrived and placed the perpetrator under arrest. Perpetrator has extensive arrest history. Store employee has received stitches and is in good condition. 

On January 23rd, at 5:00 pm, two males were stabbed during a dispute inside of Purple Lounge, a club located at 1517 Atlantic Avenue. The perpetrator(s) have not been arrest. The investigation continues.

On January 18th, at 6:00 pm and January 19, at 1:15 pm, in Lafayette Gardens Houses at 433 Lafayette Avenue, two victims were robbed by an unidentified man; the first was a forced robbery and the second robbery was at gunpoint. Police are still investigating.

 

81st Precinct

In the 81st Precinct, crime is down 10.7 percent for the month of January compared to this same time last year.

On January 31st, at 2:00 pm, a man was sitting in the driver’s side of his car in front of 721 Willoughby Street talking on his cell phone when, he says, a black male in his 30’s approached the car and fired a shot into the car unprovoked. The bullet hit the man’s cell phone and also shot him in the mouth. The victim did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.

On January 24th, at 11:30 pm, a 32-year-old male reported he was watching television at a friend’s house at 663 Hancock Street when he heard several shots. He said shots were then fired at the door of the apartment, and then, eventually a few penetrated the door hitting him in his right thigh and groin. The victim says he has no information surrounding the cause of the shooting.

On Januray 19th, at 3:00 pm, a 16-year-old male was stabbed in his thigh on the corner of Putnam and Patchen Avenues. The victim says he was walking down Patchen Avenue, when a group of teens approached him from out of nowhere and stabbed him, unprovoked, with an unknown object. The victim says he did not know any of the perpetrators in the group and has no information surrounding the cause of the incident.

On January  18th, at 4:30 pm, Crazy Monkey, a tattoo and body piercing parlor located at 882 Broadway, was robbed. The perpetrator was described as a black male whose face was covered. The perp walked into the store, displayed a firearm, and then demanded from the workers their personal items and an undisclosed amount of cash.
