Man Found Dead, Hanging From Pole Inside Storage Room on Chauncey St

The man has been identified by police as 26-year-old Timothy Devore

On Tuesday, February 19, at approximately 1:30 p.m., 81st Pct. police received a 911 call about a possible suicide by hanging inside of 94 Chauncey Street.

According to police reports, during a routine check, a maintenance worker at Jackie Robinson Houses on Chauncey Street walked into a storage room on the roof of the building to find a man, later identified as Timothy Devore, hanging from a pole with a belt wrapped around his neck. Police arrived on the scene with emergency personnel and pronounced Devore dead.

It appeared the victim was homeless and living inside of the storage room, as there was a bed, television, clothes and food in the room. According to police, the victim was identified from a card he had on him from St. John's Bread and Life food pantry.

Further investigation showed the victim has been arrested twice in 2011 for trespassing in the Jackie Robinson complex. The medical examiner is investigating to determine whether the death is in fact a suicide. Today was the victim's birthday. He would have been 26 years old.
