Fire Truck Strikes, Kills Motorcyclist

The fire truck was responding to a blaze started by illegal fireworks.

A fire truck responding to a garbage fire collided with a motorcycle in Bed-Stuy on Monday, killing the motorcyclist, according to NY1.

Ladder 1-11 was responding to a “rubbish fire” started by 17-year-old Kevin Saunders, who was playing with illegal fireworks on Nostrand Avenue, says the article.

According to NY1, the fire truck was on its way to the scene when it struck Reginald Brown, 46, on his motorcycle at the intersection of Marcy and Gates Avenues.

Brown, who worked at a nonprofit that helps the homeless, was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, says the article. A vigil was held in front of his home on Monday night.

Saunders was arrested by fire marshals, says NY1.

Brown was a phenominal guy! When I saw his photo flash across the 11o'clock news last night and then I saw his motorcycle, I bowed my head in prayer. God Bless his soul.

Reginald Brown was a CARING man and individual. He was also a friend that was always there for you and anyone else. We worked together at the Doe Fund and he dedicated his life to helping others in need.
