Cop Shoots Teen in Crown Heights Trying to Steal Gun

Three suspects allegedly tried to take a gun police suspected used in earlier shooting.

A police officer in Crown Heights shot a 17-year-old who was allegedly attempting to steal a gun from a van under guard Saturday morning, according to the NYPD.

At around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a police officer was guarding a van on Bergen Street while awaiting a search warrant. Three teenagers allegedly tried to open the van's driver's side door and take a gun from inside. The gun, police said, was likely used in an earlier shooting in Brooklyn.

After ordering the three teens to stop, the officer fired his weapon and hit one in the left buttock.

Another teen was arrested at the scene and a third fled and has not yet been found.

The suspect who was shot was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
