Bus Collides with Police Emergency Vehicle on Dekalb

More than 20 people taken to local hospitals after collision.

An MTA bus carrying more than 20 people collided with an emergency response van in Bed-Stuy Monday night, police said.

The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, when police were responding to a call of a distressed person on Tompkins Avenue. An MTA bus struck the police van at the intersection of Tompkins and Dekalb after the van entered against the light with its sirens and lights on.

Police said the roads were wet at the time, but they're unsure if the rain was a factor in the accident.

The bus driver — who was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries — told police she didn't see the emergency services van.

In total, 24 people, including the bus driver, were taken by ambulance to three hospitals, including Interfaith, Kings County and New York Hospital Queens. None of the injuries are considered serious.
