Brooklyn Led Way In Murders Last Year, Says NYPD

Most crime took place in Bed-Stuy and surrounding neighborhoods, says the data.

According to NYPD statistics that were released on Friday, Brooklyn led the way in the city’s murders last year – with most crime taking place in Bed-Stuy and bordering neighborhoods, says the New York Daily News.

38 percent of last year’s murders happened in the borough, says the article, and of the 515 homicides that occurred citywide, 196 of them were in Brooklyn, with most happening in the neighborhoods of Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights and East New York.

So far this year, the NYPD says there have been 136 murders, which is , says the Daily News.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said that the has helped to cut crime in Brooklyn, says the article.

“Due in part to this relationship, murders in Brooklyn North fell by 13% last year, more than three times the citywide rate of decline,” Kelly told the Daily News.
