Bed-Stuy Mother Found Guilty of Murder in Marchella Death Case

Carlotta Brett-Pierce was convicted of second-degree murder and faces life in prison for the death of her young daughter.

Bed-Stuy mother Carlotta Brett-Pierce was found guilty of second-degree murder on Wednesday in the death of her four-year-old daughter Marchella, whose body was found starved and beaten, says the Wall Street Journal.

"To me, at the time, it didn't look bad," Brett-Pierce said during testimony, according to the article. "She looked like a child who wasn't sitting on her booty in the hospital all day. She was outside running around for the first time in her life."

Juror deliberated for less than an hour before finding Brett-Pierce guilty, and she faces life in prison when she is sentenced on June 6 by Brooklyn state Supreme Court judge Patricia DiMango, says the article.
