Alleged Cop Killer Lamont Pride Indicted Today

Pride and four accomplices are being charged with the Dec. 12 murder of NYPD Officer Peter Figoski.

Lamont Pride, 27, was indicted today along with four other men in the fatal shooting of Police Officer Peter Figoski, 47, announced Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

At 2:15 a.m. on December 12, Officer Figoski and his partner responded to a Cypress Hills robbery call. While Pride was attempting to flee the scene, he shot Officer Figoski in the face, according to the indictment. Officer Figoski died five hours later at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

Officer Figoski was a 22-year veteran of the 75th Precinct.

Pride is being charged with Murder in the First Degree, Aggravated Murder, Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a weapon in the Second Degree. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole.

The other participants in the Dec. 12 robbery -- Kevin Santos, 30; Ariel Tejada, 22; Nelson Moralez, 27, and Michael Velez, 21 -- are charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.  If convicted, they face 25 years to life in prison.

"The plan was hatched the previous day as the five were watching a Giants game," said D.A. Hynes at a press conference today, according to the New York Post.

The Post also reports today that Pride was involved in a physical altercation with two prison guards at Rikers Island yesterday, when he refused to undergo a routine search.
