79th Precinct Cops Say Bad Evaluations Are Payback

Nine cops at the 79th precinct believe that they received unfair evaluations after standing up to a superior.

Nine cops at the 79th Precinct believe the bad evaluations they received are a result of their complaints about ticket quotas and standing up to racist remarks allegedly made by their sergeant, says the Daily News.

The article says that trouble began for the officers when they tried to hold a daylong summons boycott to protest quotas, unnerving Deputy Inspector Peter Bartoszek. The News adds that last October, a white cop at the stationhouse, Sgt. Sean McLaine, was placed on modified duty after accusations swirled that he referred to a black cop, Officer Roberto Stokes, as “boy.”

According to sources, the nine cops got grades no greater than 2.5 out of 5, while the News notes that the officers — four black, three Hispanic and two Asian — had scored much better in the past.
