On Sunday, 30-year encumbant Congressman Edolphus Towns announced his endorsement for his replacement for the 8th Congressional District seat: City Councilman Charles Barron.
Up until recently, many had considered Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries the forerunner, and endorsements, including key backing from a 64,000-member strong .
But as the race nears primary day, things aren't looking so sewn up for Jeffries. Two weeks ago, , the city's largest public employee union with 121,000 members. Also, Barron points to his large base of longtime supporters in Brownsville, East New York and parts of Bed-Stuy, for which he has warned the media and others against overlooking.
Towns calls Barron “unselfish,” and one who “definitely has the interests of the people of this district at heart.”
