During my children’s entire spring break recess last week, I was without Internet access on my laptop.
There was a major Internet connection outage with the carrier of my air card. With editorial deadlines approaching (including this article!), I needed this issue fixed fast. To make matters worse, during my Internet interruption, my monthly service expired on April 25.
I called up the air card company with the mindset to request back a week’s worth of service that I had lost that was not due to an error on my part.

When I first spoke to a technician representative, she said she’d credit me $10 toward my next monthly cycle’s purchase. That wasn’t going to work for me. So, I reiterated my need. She asked me for my account information and said she’d see what she could do.
After a few minutes wait, the rep returned to the line and said my request had been honored; that I would get back 10 days of service. I thanked her and hung up to get busy posting this weekly column.

I felt successful in my endeavor. If I hadn’t of asked for what I needed (and felt I deserved), the company wasn’t going to give me my time back on their own.
They didn’t call me up and say, “Hello Ms. Huff. We apologize for your Internet inconvenience. So, here’s what we’re going to do… We’re going to give you back all the days you were without service. How’s that?”
In the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible, it states in Matthew 7:7-8: “Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.” That is comforting to know.
I share this situation with you as an example of what you can receive when you ask.
As single moms, we must ask for what we need. No one knows what that could be but us.
When we walk around with closed lips, neither we nor our children can get the help we really need.
I encourage you ask for what you need in every facet of your life. What you’ll receive could make a major difference in your life just because you ASKED – and, did so with faith!
