Fulton Street ICU

The Look of Bedford Stuyvesant commercial corridors.

I really love the architecture of Bedford Stuyvesant but the stretch of Fulton Street in Bedford Stuyvesant is one of the ugliest shopping corridors in Brooklyn.  Ugly and all it is somewhat successful with the many nail shops, 99 cent stores, hair shops, junk food take-outs and bodegas that line almost every block between Classon and Marcus Garvey. I usually try to avoid Fulton because I am over stimulated with the very loud music (that I should not be forced to hear), tacky signage that is distasteful and very much out of scale.  I notice I become more aggressive and angry for no reason when walking down Fulton Street.  To the contrary, Fulton Street in Fort Greene makes you want to stroll down and take in everything looking through the nicely decorated windows of every shop/ restaurant. SOLA or Lewis Ave is becoming another great success due to the owners taking pride in there shopfronts.    I see you already Mr. Bodega, which seem to set the standards with too much lettering and pictures of faded food all over the canopy.  Whats up with the two out of fifty light bulbs working around your already your tacky sign?  Many buildings on Fulton Street are over 120 years old and have great architecture underneath all the cheap stuff. I am thankful to the BID for doing sidewalk redesign and street-scape. I hope the merchants of Fulton Street and Nostrand also step it up...  It would be nice to have a sit down outdoor dining experience on Fulton Street in Bedford Stuyvesant.  I would like to keep more of my money in the neighborhood and support my neighbors but some are forcing me to go elsewhere.  Appearance always plays a critical role in the success of anything.  What are your views to Fulton Street aesthetics?
