Racism Still Exists: Who's Behind this BOLD Bed-Stuy Bus Shelter Ad Campaign?

A bold ad campaign aims to educate Bed-Stuy residents on the myth of a post-racial USA, while they wait for the bus.

Have you noticed the monthly "Racism Still Exists" ad campaign gracing the city bus shelters of Bed-Stuy?

Since August of this year, an anonymous person or organization has highlighted one talking point each month aimed at challenging the idea that the United States now exists in a "post-racial" space of diversity and inclusion.

On the tumblr companion site to these ads, the creator(s) go into depth behind the ads, using both historical and contemporary facts, figures, and commentary to highlight the ongoing social injustices that plague communities of color in the US.

While these ads are brave and compelling, I'm lost as to what the consumer is supposed to do with these messages.

Other than bringing awareness to these issues, there's no call to action, no challenge to the community to create or support initiatives that are working to solve these concerns.

As far as I know, these ads have only been placed in Bed-Stuy (none of my East New York, Brownsville, or Harlem friends have reported seeing these ads, and none of my Oakland, Chicago, or Detroit friends have seen them either).

Have you seen these ads throughout Bed-Stuy and in other neighborhoods/cities?

What do you think of this campaign?
