Awakening the Goddess Within

Olaronke Okinmowo wants to help women re-connect with their inner Goddess through Yoga.

There’s a common misconception that Yoga (yes, with a capital Y) is something only fit, rich, white people do, and it’s time to dispel that myth.

Yoga is more than 5,000 years old and while many believe that it originated in India, you can find elements of Yoga in Ancient Egypt whenever you see the Uraeus (the serpent worn on the headdress of the Pharoah), which represents the creative life force/enlightment/Oneness with the Divine and throughout hieroglyphs which depict postures used today across several Yoga traditions.

Hatha is the mother of all Yoga traditions, and Yoga itself is an eight-fold path that encompasses self-discipline, self-care, breathwork, meditation, concentration, devotion, universal consciousness, and personal development.

For Olaronke Okinmowo, a Yoga Teacher from the Kripalu tradition, Yoga heals the body, calms the mind, and invigorates the spirit. Her weekly classes at Restoration invite women (and men) of all body types to breathe, move, meditate, and connect with their inner power.

Beginning this Sunday, you can join Ola for four weeks of Goddess Yoga, where participants can explore four archetypes of the Goddess: Lover, Warrior, Mother, Priestess. This woman-centered interactive workshop includes yoga, discussion, journaling, and an opportunity to learn how to take the practice of Yoga off the mat. Wear pink to honor the feminine principle, and bring your journal for the writing exercise.
