NBA Basketball Hall-of-Famer Vernon Earl “The Pearl” Monroe paid a visit last night to the Billie Holiday Theatre in Restoration Plaza to share his life story and introduce his new book, “Earl the Pearl: My Story.”

The sports superstar and NBA legend was joined by the book's author, Quincy Troupe (author of The Pursuit of Happyness) to give the small theatre audience an up-close-and-personal account of Philadelphia native Monroe and the key moments is his upbringing that have helped build his character, sharpen his game and eventually gild him the annals of basketball as the seminal player to change the way the game is played today.

After helping lead the New York Knicks to their last NBA title, Monroe, also known as “Black Magic," was the perfect combination of athletic ability, flamboyancy, grace and showmanship.   

Now, 40 years later shared his amazing and compelling story-- anecdotes that takes us from the playgrounds and hardships of his childhood in South Philadelphia to his status as the basketball legend he is today.
