5 Things You Should Know This Week

Parking suspensions, G Train service changes and a gathering to watch the presidential debate

1. Alternate side of the street parking will be suspended Monday, October 1, and Tuesday, October 2, for the Jewish Festival of Sukkot.

2. MTA Weekday planned service changes:
G Train: Beginning at 12:01 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.,  Tue to Fri, Oct 2 - 5, there are no G trains between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av. A and F trains provide alternate service via Jay St-MetroTech.
G service operates in two sections:
1. Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
2. Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.
• To continue your trip, transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
• Transfer between A and G trains at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.
• Transfer between A and F trains at Jay St-MetroTech.

3. On Monday, October 1, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., join a collective of Brooklyn parents interested in the best education for their children at a Private School Admissions Fair, sponsored by Word of Mom. The meeting will provide an annual examination of the New York City Private School admissions process, spotlighting a select group of Brooklyn and Manhattan tuition-based schools whose educational approaches include ultra-progressive, inclusion, single-sex, traditional models, and (new this year) programs for special needs students. Invited presenters include admission directors from Saint Ann’s, Avenues, Berkeley Carroll, Brooklyn Friends, Brooklyn Heights Montessori, Brooklyn Waldorf, Churchill, Claremont Prep, Collegiate, International School of Brooklyn, Little Red, Packer, Poly Prep, Spence, The Green Hill School, Rivendell, The Speyer Legacy School, Smart City Kids, Oliver,  Prep for Prep and more. Nursery through upper school admissions will be covered. The event will take place at Saint Philip’s Parish House, 265 Decatur Street (Stuyvesant and Lewis), Admission is $10.

4. On Tuesday, October 2, at M1-5, located at 52 Walker St, NYC, NY, you are cordially invited to attend an exciting birthday party and campaign fundraiser for Abe George, who is running for Brooklyn District Attorney. Actor Holt McCallany (from "Three Kings" and the FX series "Lights Out") will MC the evening's festivities, which will include a 2-hour open bar from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., light refreshments, and live music.  Chris Noth (a.k.a. 5. Meet politically involved residents on Wednesday, October 3, at Medgar Evers College, Jackson Auditorium, "AB1" Building, located at 1638 Bedford Avenue for a public forum on redistricting, a networking session and a group viewing of the presidential debate. Join John Flateau, PhD., Chair of the public administration department, Sidique Wai of the United African Congress, Hugh Hamilton of WBAI's Talk Back radio show and many more for A Public Forum Free and Open to the Public, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm; Redistricting – Black Political Power, 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm; Social Networking, 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm; Presidential Debate viewing.
