The 12th Annual KIDflix Film Fest begins Friday, August 5th!

The Kidflix Film Festival, hosted by MoCADA, will be a fun event for both the young and the young at heart!

     The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and African Film Fest (AFF) proudly celebrate the 12th Annual KIDflix Film Fest of Bedford Stuyvesant this August!  This year’s festival promises to be the most exciting line up ever with newly released films of the African Diaspora, live performances, Q&A opportunities with directors, art workshops for children, and our grand finale dance party themed in the style of The Wiz! MoCADA is thrilled to screen an episode of MoCADA TV prior to each feature film, which is an exciting, revolutionary series that takes the African Diaspora outside of its museum walls and into the world of television. Join us every Friday in August at 7pm at Fulton Park (Stuyvesant & Fulton A/C to Utica).

     On August 5th, Jamel Gaines’ Creative Outlet Dance Academy will be performing before the screening of Brownstones to Red Dirt. We are excited to announce that the director (Dave LaMattina) and some of his cast members will be attending the screening of Brownstones, a feature length film which tells the story of how children find one another through a pen pal program that not only expands how they see the world but also shows them how much they have in common through shared experiences.

     On August 12th, Violin Diva will be performing before the screening of Mwansa the Great and Soul BoyMwansa the Great is a short film about an 8 year old boy who is determined to prove that he is destined for greatness. Soul Boy is a feature length drama about a Kenyan boy who sets out to find a cure for his father’s illness only to find that his soul has been stolen by a witch.

      August 19th is Caribbean Night! This night will feature animated short films and performances presented by CariBBeing Film Festival and Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival. Additionally, there will be performances from CASYM Steel Orchestra. This event will be a festive evening of Caribbean film and culture.

     On August 26th we will be hosting a Dance Like Michael Workshop with Aamir Smith. After the workshop, we will be screening the WizThe Wiz is an urban adaptation of the Wizard of Oz. This film version of the Tony Award winning Broadway sensation will have you up and out of your seat ready to “Ease on down the road!”

            We hope to see all of Brooklyn’s children out every Friday night! We are super excited about KIDflix this year and hope that you are as well. Come early for a dance party with True DJ who will be spinning the best of the old school classics. There will also be fun contests, give-aways, and prizes. KIDflix is an interactive event that is suitable for both the young and the young at heart.
