RIP THE RUNWAY: Brooklyn's Fashion Outdoors Was a Huge Success!

Should Fashion Designers design specifically for one cultural group? How do you feel about it?

“Rip the Runway, Brooklyn’s Fashion Outdoors” was a huge success!  Close to 200 hundred people were in attendance to celebrate some of Brooklyn’s hottest young designers and models.  They strutted their fashions on an outdoor catwalk in the heart of Fort Greene, Brooklyn while DJ Trauma provided music which really set the tone for the event.

The show featured over forty-five different pieces designed by six different designers, each with their own aesthetic. All of the designs were modeled by twenty-five models who walked fiercely down the runway in the brilliant sunshine. Farai Simoyi  is a women's & men's wear designer fashion label that designs for the trend setting cosmopolitan. The look is fresh, edgy, unique, and represents a diverse view that is sure to set new trends for every season. Purple Pill Babies, by Tasiya Sealey, is here to quench the thirst of Modern Eclektic Afrikan-Chic people with her 1st summer collection of shirts, skirts, shorts and most famously custom eye wear.Daphnée has traveled to her native country Haiti, to bring the craftsmanship and stunning creativity of this original line of handbags and jewelry from the hands of independent, Haitian artisans straight to the fashionable streets of New York. Justice Belle, brought us a blend of jazzy luxury and simple elegance. The collection features genuine gemstones, pearls, swarovski & other crystals set in a variety of metals including brass, silver and gold. Brown Skin Ladies by Anisah Ansari, is made for the brown skin lady, the African woman. Sexy and sassy with a modern edge. The Live Again Collection was inspired by consumers who challenge the designers to take the lifestyle culture beyond the expected. Live Again Design Studio sees itself as a multicultural trailblazer.

MoCADA would like to thank everyone for supporting the entire Soul of Brooklyn Week 2011.  It would not have been successful without the “soul” of Brooklyn. And if you missed the fashion show then you can "click here" to check out a video presented by Dope Files.
