Blitz the Ambassador Album Release at S.O.B.'s on May 4th in Review. Can an African Sound enter the global Hip Hop movement?

There are so many events happening in Brooklyn that it is impossible to keep up with the energy that is coming out of the borough. The talent that is coming from the Borough of Brooklyn is on fire and for the culturally talented, there is no better place to be than in Brooklyn, New York right now!

Each week, I will keep you posted on events that you may have attended and invite you to share your experiences and for those of you who missed out, these posts will be sure to keep you "In the Know" of the Brooklyn Experience.

Wednesday night (May 4th, 2011), Bedford Stuyvesant's own by way of Ghana, Blitz the Ambassador and the Embassy Ensemble kicked off their album release for the NATIVE SUN album at S.O.B.'s in Manhattan.

The live performance was opened by Maurice Kiyra from Uganda and it was beyond amazing! Blitz's performance was taken to the next level when Sahr Ngaujah, the star of the US and London Fela got on the mic! The album is not only incredible - it is also revolutionary! You have to check it out! Go and get a copy of the album ASAP, or come to MoCADA at 80 Hanson Place, corner of South Portland in Brooklyn. Check out photos from the Album Release Party.

Here's the question! There is a whole African musical movement taking place throughout the world with such talented stars as N'Neka, Asa, Seun Kuti, Tumi and the Volume and K'Nian (Please check all these talented artists out).

Can an African Sound enter the global Hip Hop movement, the same way groups from Atlanta, St. Louis, New Orleans and California fused into the once New York dominated musical scene of Hip Hop?

Is there a place or space for an African hip-hop movement or should these talented artists even try to fit into that industry or create a new industry?
