Vision Kids

The fall is a time that most of us start a new project. We all have a subconscious back to school attitude that causes us to start new projects that usually flow through the New Year and onto June of the following year. This post is for the kids and preparing them for the new school year that is or has started. We should talk to them about their thoughts on the new school year, grade, and goals. What do they want to accomplish; how will they do it, what’s the time frame and who will be involved.

Get a blank sheet of paper and add their name and the date along the top of the sheet. Add the thesis questions: What are your goals for this upcoming school year? Have them answer this question in detail while noting exactly how this will be done.

  1. What is it?
  2. How will they achieve this goal?
  3. When is the end date for said goal to be accomplished?
  4. Who will they need to tap in for assistance?

Make a few copies of this sheet and place it on refrigerator, on their bedroom door, next to the bathroom mirror and in their book bag. Why so many places? It serves as a constant reminder for them and for you as the parent of what their goals are. If you are on it, they will be on it as well.

As the progress reports and report cards come in, revisit the list and discuss ‘state of the project’ at that moment. If you make it a big deal, the kids will make it a bigger deal.
