On
Saturday, December 14, 11:00 to 1:00 PM a celebration of life ceremony will
take place at Boys and Girls High School, 1700 Fulton Street, in the Bedford
Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York City.
Republic of South Africa Consul General George Monyemangene will address
the audience.
Immediately following the indoor celebration New
York City Public Advocate elect Letitia “Tish” James will lead a pedestrian/motorcar
procession thru the community.  This
march will meet a South African community vigil at the school playground, near
M.S. 113, DeKalb Avenue at Carlton, in the Fort Greene section of the borough.

The People of Brooklyn fondly remember Nelson Rolihlahla
Mandela.  The international icon of peace
and justice visited the borough on June 21, 1990 (just months after his release
from Robben Island) during his eight city USA tour.  NYPD estimated 100,000 Brooklynites greeted
the president’s motorcade as it passed thru the neighborhoods of East New York,
Fort Greene; his first official stop on this tour was at Boys and Girls High
School where he addressed New Yorkers.
