Our world faces a crisis. BORDERS AND BARRIERS have appeared everywhere in our external world. People from dominant groups silence others and speak for entire communities through codified systems. People of color are reduced to being seen as consumers of food instead of as major contributors to the realm of food and agriculture.  Old knowledgeable gardeners have become perpetual students of newly educated agricultural experts.

PLEASE COME SHARE HOW OPPRESSION AND RACISM IS WORKING IN THE FOOD SYSTEM AND COMMUNITY.

We will get clear on commonly used terms i.e RACISM,POWER,FOODSYSTEM,PRIVILEGE,PREJUDICE,IDENTITY, POVERTY ,SEED,SPATIAL RACISM, STRUCTURAL RACISM,INTERNALIZED RACISM,EMPOWER and their meanings and contrast how internal and structural racism works. ALL RACES AND ETHNICITIES ARE WELCOME IN THIS SAFE SPACE.WE’LL TALK IT OUT,DRAW IT OUT and DRUM IT OUT! PLEASE BRING NOTEBOOKS, ANCESTRAL TRINKETS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL SAFE, WATER, TISSUES, DRUMS AND SHAKERS.

*Community council is a traditional method of connecting and exploring individual and systemic issues. In community council people are encouraged to speak from the heart not the intellect. The symbolism of the circle establishes no hierarchy or dominance

I fluttered inside with excitement yesterday to learn that a dear shero who has informed my sense of authencity in community organizing and strengthened my abilities to understand structural racism and how it operates in communities Ms Maya Wiley is now the new mayors pick for counsel (indeed Ms Maya Wiley had come to speak with our Farm school NYC class three years ago , sharing her wisdom on how creating change and racial equity in the food system has to involve conversations about other structural systems ) I understood beyond the shadow of a doubt after meeting Ms Wiley that unless we address our systems, our children and grandchildren will continue to move around in small circles ofr lifetimes over, creating feel good projects that never address the structural inequities. It became obvious why I needed to do the work of sharing this information with people on the ground, so they could better understand and participate in the food system, although it was not the hippest or easiest thing to do .  We have come so far as humans in our evolution,that it behooves us to find an easier way to live fuller lives that call us to the highest of our potential, not just settle for long lifetimes of oppression,suffering,disease and lack. Our genetics know this too, so we're often in battle with this deep knowing that understands abundance and well-being as our birthright compared to this dominant competitive greed mentality in our waking reality that . I urge you to approach your growing edge by insisting on cultures and communities that honor our humanity, our differences. 

About The facilitator - Farmer Yon is a food justice farmer/educator who has been growing food in the Bedford Stuyvesant community for 12 growing seasons, teaching Food justice at Farm School NYC for 4 years and working with the drums as a healing tool in various communities for over twenty years in the U.S. Farmer Yon has advanced the compassion energy needed to displace these pathologies while offering a clear theoretical and spiritual context for healing from the betrayal of racism : We will use this time to bring focus to racism in the areas of food and the environment. Hark Ye! We call out to our brightest and smartest people to help organize monthly communal dinners on the farm, conduct case studies of our project which we can use and share with funders,organize anti racism conversations with community residents,assist with the compilation of a historical narrative for the Hattie Carthan garden which connects to Hattie Carthan's narrative of environmental and economic justice, redesign and maintain our website, maintain the garden,farm and markets by organizing corporate and other volunteer groups willing to serve.
