Hattie Carthan Herstory Month Event

Dear community, Happy almost Spring! Happy women's history month!

Indeed our clocks indicate it is almost time to come out from our hibernation and descent processes to examine and plan our path and journeys in a conscious manner. When spring rolls into our lives, we start to pick up the slack that winter instilled inside us .It is a time to celebrate the newness of life, to strengthen our defences to the energies, situations and system designs that cause us to be sick, stressed.

We invite you to join our women's circle as we stand in our individual truths to achieve the compassion aspect required to achieve integrity. In 2014, we are bearing witness to a call from the larger collective to work together to purify and reconcile the old shadows of exploitation, dishonesty and hypocrisy which has led to suffering in large masses. The call is not just global and national, but local as what we see playing out in the macro scene is just an indication of what is played out on micro levels. We must find ways to organize ,reconcile and purify in order to align to our highest goals for all. Please join us in this fertile places as we address and fortify our physical and spiritual immune systems, strategize around that which sucks our life force, threatens our creativity and authenticity as women. It is time to come together to align our actions to our highest collective goals. HEARK YE!

A CIRCLE OF WOMENDATE: MARCH 23rd 2014TIME: 11AM TO 4PMTHEME: CHANGING THE STORIES OF OUR LIVESPLACE: MAGNOLIA TREE AND EARTH CENTER 677 LAFAYETTE AVENUE GG – BEDFORD/NOSTRANDFACILITATED BY BEDSTUY WOMEN SECURITY CONFERENCE FOUNDER YONNETTE FLEMINGwww.bedstuywomensecurity.com

PLEASE BRING A DISH FROM YOUR ANCESTRY FOR OUR POTLUCK
What are the stories that we women had been told about ourselves? Where in HIS TORY does HER STORY show up? Where are women’s contributions to civilization remembered or acknowledged in the historical timeline? How are the legacies of our sheroes remembered and preserved?  In a culture where women’s contributions are often ignored , where women are expected to “suck up” toxic emotions and where our anger is written off as hysteria, many women have unconsciously bought into oppressive ways of understanding themselves . For many of us, the story we’ve been told is in fact a limiting one which may come from a racist history, a story of "playing it safe" or of accepting "mediocrity" out of fear . For others the story is even less inspiring, a story of SELF-DOUBT, INSECURITY and LOW EXPECTATIONS.We carry these oppressive stories in our bodies which can cause the body to become imbalanced and open the door to illnesses as they stop us from loving who we truly are as life bearers. In many cases the wounding is done by other women. Join us as we go inward to uncover those stories, return them to their sources of untruth and create new stories of Change.

We are grateful to the following for supporting this event: Just Food, Hattie Carthan community market. Magnolia Tree and Earth Center * NOTESPlease arrive on time and be prepared for a productive time together . Doors will close promptly after our yoni meditation. I encourage you to get adequate rest the night before and to bring along feminine symbols which make you feel safe. the stories of powerful women ancestors who have set the template for your own journey and a blanket for the journey as many of these stories are QUITE COLD. Our circle begins with a YONI meditation and ends with a symbolic purification ceremony of the stories and hurtful words that prevent us from living to our highest potential .

We will also use this time to create a calendar of healing events aligned to nature and her seasons on the farm in 2014 and compound on our feminine empowerment/leadership work already taking place in our agricultural projects and wish to invite new groups of women who are interested in strengthening our efforts to grow a community of women who can advocate on behalf of themselves, flora, fauna and the things we hold dear to us.

Teaching Philosophy/methods:
Dreaming, council and journeying are common phenomena throughout the world, and have universally been used by indigenous people for the aquisition of knowledge and understanding. We work with meditation, drum journeys (shamanic journeying) and body scanning as we explore different ways of knowing. Each person is encouraged to find their own preferred way of journeying and is supported in interpreting the insights received. These techniques are used to acquire insight.
The body as diagnostic tool:
Many of us have been trained to perceive illness from a particular perspective that we call ‘medicine’. Fundamental beliefs within this paradigm tell us that illness should be perceived as a problem, that we can diagnose with technical expert support, and that biochemical treatment can either fix or suppress the problem. Consider for a moment what it would mean to perceive illness as a teaching, symptoms as the body attempting to communicate to you and healing as a process of growing, understanding yourself and your environment better and improving your wellbeing. With deep gratitude and respect for our Earth!
