Brooklyn Day Parade honors Sidique Wai, head of United African Congress

The Bed-Stuy based Living Well Local Development Corporation today sponsored the Brooklyn Day Parade.

The tiny parade, organized by Reverend Robert Townsley, was attended by a handfull of elected officials, including State Senator Eric Adams, Assemblywoman Annette Robinson and former Congressman Major Owens, who was issued a citation of recognition by Congressman Ed Towns.

The Clara Muhammad School of Masjid Khalifah represented the community's youth by marching, chanting and singing from Fulton Street down Marcus Garvey Boulevard this morning.

The event concluded at P.S. 44, with special dedications and citations issued to Sidique Wai, the highest-ranking civilian in the New York City Police Department and president of the United African Congress. Reverend Smallwood, chaplain of the New York City Police Department, and Dave Hanson from the Hanson Group also were honored.
