VIDEO: Behind the Scenes of 'Stars of New York Dance'

Rehearsal footage of City Council Member Darlene Mealy and Kevin Joseph of Pure Elements, as they prepare for the third annual "Stars of New York Dance" fundraiser and competition

On Thursday, November 1, 7:00pm at the Kumble Theatre for Performing Arts, the "Stars of New York Dance" will return for its third year.

Errol Louis, political anchor and host of “Inside City Hall” on NY 1 News, returns for a second year as the host and the Reverend Johnny Ray Youngblood, executive pastor at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bed-Stuy, will be honored at this year’s second annual dance-off and fundraiser.

Before the actual competition, the chosen “dancing stars” of New York undergo weeks of rigorous dance training with a professional dance partner to prepare a three-minute routine. Six couples will compete to win a $5,000 Access Award grand prize, which they will donate to a local children’s arts organization of their choice.

Check out recent behind-the-scenes footage of community City Council Member Darlene Mealy rehearsing her routine with Kevin Joseph, co-executive artistic director for Pure Elements Dance Company.

Tickets for Stars of New York Dance are $75; VIP tickets, including a cocktail reception, are $125. Purchase tickets online at www.kumbletheater.org.

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
