1. According to a tweet by Brooklynbased.net, SCRATCHbread has officially opened its walk-up window on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 8 pm. Read on the fabulous bakery. Brooklynbased.net co-signs our sentiments about the deliciousness of this food spot, where you can get loaves of fresh bread or a “hunk” of focaccia pizza with owner Matthew Tilden’s homemade mozzarella and sauce. On weekends, they’ll offer a brunch on-the-go with pastries and sandos. Saturdays will be an all-day affair from 10 am to 6 pm, featuring a market fresh sandwich and new SCRATCHspreads, “like pink beans with goat cheese and pickled red onions, or kale pesto, which seems to be addicting to those who have tried it.” Sunday the brunchy options continue, but from 9 am to 2 pm.

2. Another tweet announced that Massimiliano Nanni, co-owner of Saraghina Restaurant will be leaving to open a new restaurant, Celestino, a Mediterranean bistro. According to The Village Voice, the new restaurant will be designed by Nanni's wife, an artist who was also responsible for creating Saraghina's distinctive look, and will feature deep-sea diving suits and lobster cages. Sounds like seafood heaven!

3. The Atlantic sent out a tweet promoting its 5-part video series on food, diet, nutrition and hunger. In his second installment, he features Dr. Melony Sameuls, founder and director of Bed Stuy Campaign Against Hunger. In this video, Samuels speaks on a panel at a food conference, “Changing the Way We Eat.” She teaches us about the beauty of smallness—about how tweaking the details of a single local initiative can mean the difference between produce rotting on food-pantry shelves and residents leading healthier, fuller lives. Here she describes the evolution of her anti-hunger project, which feeds 10,000 people in Central Brooklyn each month.

4. In Brooklyn neighborhoods like Bedford Stuyvesant, where foreclosures make up a large percentage of homes in the shadow inventory of properties available for sale, it’s hard to know if you’re getting the right deal. For instance, real estate veteran Michael Corley of My Brooklyn Report tells the tale of one new homeowner in Bed-Stuy who paid $230,000 more for their Turn of the Century Brownstone than the owner they purchased it from... and the previous owner closed on their purchase just 4 months before they sold it to them! See what advice he offers on his site. Or follow him here.

5. Brownstoner tweeted one of its stories about the Co-op School, the Clinton Hill-based preschool, is expanding and opening an elementary school at 40 Breeevort Place, between Franklin and Bedford in Bedford Stuyvesant. There will be additional preschool classrooms in the new location, which will open this September. There will also be a new art room, library, rec room and science room. An information and recruitment meeting is scheduled for July 25th at the new building; more information about the expansion is expected to materialize in the coming weeks. The original location of the Co-op School is 87 Irving Place, where it’s been since 2009; the school will continue to operate out of it after the new space opens.
