Community Corner

The Race is On!

The BSRC 10K is less than one week away, but it's not too late to join! Cash prizes available for the first time this year!

There is still time for you to register for the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration’s 30th annual 10K Run/Fun Walk taking place next Sunday, October 9.

Runners come out solo and in groups for a day of fun, exercise and community. We’re gearing up to surpass last year’s turnout of 650 runners and walkers.

Be part of the fun and get your exercise on!  The race is for you, whether you are training for the NYC marathon, looking for a change of scene for your morning run, or whether you are just looking to get/stay fit. If you are not prepared to run a 10k, have no fear and excuse, you can also walk the 5K route.

Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in 12 age categories.  Our fastest runners have something extra to race for—this year, there will be cash prizes of $500, $250 and $150 respectively for the first, second and third place overall finishers.

Bring out the entire family.  There will be a free kiddy run for children ages 3 to 10. Every child is a winner and will receive a medallion when they finish the race, along with their commemorative t-shirt.

Cheer Runners.  If you’re not up for running this year, come out to support the runners along the route.  Check out the 10K route and the 5K route, as the runners might be passing your block.

Enjoy Bed Stuy Alive! The 1OK Run is one of several events as part of Bed Stuy Alive!, a week of activities promoting the culture, commerce and community of Bed Stuy..

On Saturday, October 8, the day before the race, runners and walkers can pick up their numbers at Restoration while also enjoying the kick-off street fair for Bed Stuy Alive! and Restoration Rocks, a five-hour concert featuring Mos Def with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Idle Warship (Talib Kweli and Res) and Pharoahe Monch, among others.

Other events include Savor Bed Stuy, discounts and specials at local restaurants; a Studio Strut (October 15), a tour of local galleries; and the 33rd annual Brownstoners tour (October 15).

While the highpoint of race is the run which starts at 10 a.m., there is a full morning of activity taking place at Restoration Plaza starting at 8 a.m.
