The Ones That Endured
Seventeen of our 19 profiled Bed-Stuy runners completed the 2011 ING New York City Marathon
The race goes not always to the strongest nor to the fastest, but to the one that endures.
Beginning in June, training for the 2011 ING New York City Marathon. On Sunday, November 6, seventeen of those 19 runners crossed the finish line.
One of our profiled runners, Caitlin Martusewicz, was injured so she didn't run. And we were unable to catch up to Omar Almodovar whose time was not posted on the marathon website. So we are left to assume he did not run either.

Of the 17 that did complete the race, we asked them to give us their impressions of the marathon, before, during or after.
"The marathon was amazing and more than I ever imagined it would be," said Bed-Stuy runner Stephane Sterling. "The Brooklyn spectators were the BEST!"

Their discipline and fortitude to finish one of the world's hardest, voluntary physical challenges-- in effort to raise money for a cause or accomplish a personal goal-- is certainly something to aspire toward and has made Bed-Stuy proud!
