Super Bowl Life Lesson: Equanimity

When it comes to your goals, you play the role of quarterback

If you follow the game of football, you will notice that each quarterback has its  own definitive styles of play that the players and even the fans can interpret.

As individuals, these quarterbacks are either introverts or extroverts and that is how we assess their style of play.

Tom Brady can be categorized as an extrovert: In a clutch situation, he is going to throw a long pass. His team knows this as well, because at any given time, a player is going to run the long haul in anticipation of that rocket pass. If he misses, he can be found sitting on the field with his shoulders slumped, an extroverted response.

In the case of Eli Manning, he approaches each play with equanimity. He has the same expression on his face for every play. If he misses a pass, his demeanor can be interpreted as "we didn't make this play, but the next one can be the winning pass." This is more of an introverted response, and that is equanimity.

When it comes to your goals, you play the role of quarterback, and everyone on your team should have a concept of your play book. They should know if an opportunity is good for you because they know the scope of your goals. They should know the route of your journey so they may be able to open some doors or windows for you.

Five tips on how to be a great quarterback for your personal life goal team:

1) Create the strategic plan for accomplishing your goals.

2) Create a structure of execution for the plan.

3) Share these plans and structural leads with your team.

4) Trust that your team has your best interest in mind.
