Scrub-A-Dubb-Dubb: Getting Rid of Dry Skin Once and for All!

How to get beautiful skin without killing your pocketbook

My skin has taken a winter beating this season, and with spring on the horizon, I'm in a bit of a frenzy about its condition.

In addition to this "emergency," both my hair and nails are brittle and lacking moisture. I have had numerous women (and men) ask what can be used to rejuvenate their skin’s luster.  Of course, my first response is, “Are you drinking enough water?” However, water alone will not assist with dry, flaky skin.

There are a ton of body scrubs on the market that can easily smooth out the skin's surface--some are pretty inexpensive, some are not.  Personally, I like to keep money in my pocket and create my own face and body scrubs.

Last week, I did some research and took a shot at making some beautifully scented polishes that left my skin feeling like a six month old baby. They are simple to make and if you look in your kitchen cabinet, you can do the same.

If you prefer something with a coarse texture, a sea salt base would be a great choice. For a finely granulated quality, sugar is the way to go and is better to use on the face rather than a salt scrub. Here are a few recipes I found that you might find interesting enough to try:

This recipe combines both salt and sugar. I loved the almond, coconut, and lavender oil combination.

Delicious Scrub Recipe

1 cup organic cane sugar

1/3 cup celtic sea salt

1/2 cup organic coconut oil

2-3 tablespoons almond oil

1 tablespoon vitamin e

Lavender Essential Oil

Mix in a bowl and make sure you have a mason jar or plastic container to store it in.

If you like oranges, you’ll love this:

Juicy Orange Body Scrub

1 Cup  (ONLY ONE) sea salt or sugar

1/4 Cup coconut oil

1/4 tsp. lemon juice

8-12 Drops orange essential oil

Pour your choice of either sea salt or sugar into a bowl. Mix in coconut oil, add lemon juice, and 8 drops of orange essential oil for a lighter scent or 12 drops for a stronger blend. Mix and put in an airtight container.

This scrub is nice if you prefer something unscented:

Sugar Olive Oil Scrub

3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 Tablespoons of honey

1 cup of sugar

1 chopstick or stirring stick

1 clean container

Add the extra virgin olive oil and honey to your container. Next, add the sugar to the mixture. Stir well with the chopsticks or stirring stick.

I am very interested to hear how these worked for you. Please feel free to drop me a line and let me know.

Also, if you created some of your own, I’d love to hear about them!
