Poll: Weiner Would Trail Quinn in Mayoral Primary

An NBC poll shows, if Anthony Weiner decides to run on the Democratic ticket for mayor, he is right behind Christine Quinn

Despite the fact that former Anthony Weiner still has not revealed whether he will be entering the New York City mayoral race, the former Queens representative is polling second behind Democratic candidate and City Council speaker Christine Quinn, The New York Times reports.

In a poll of voters released on Tuesday by NBC New York, Weiner was favored by 15 percent of registered Democrats in a hypothetical primary matchup.

While Quinn’s support is down slightly from a previous Marist poll, she is still favored by 26 percent of the respondents. And other contenders – Comptroller John C. Liu and Former Comptroller Bill Thompson and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio – experienced little change in their support numbers.

Weiner, who ran for mayor in 2005 and considered a bid in 2009, was forced to resign his House seat less than two years ago after a Twitter scandal in which he posted lewd photos of himself.

However, he revealed his interest in a mayoral run in a recent profile in The New York Times Magazine. And according to the telephone poll of 1,127 adults, if he attempts to make a comeback, he could be a veritable contender.
