Police Blotter: Firearms and Cocaine Bust

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

Crime is down 4.2 percent in the 81st Precinct for the week of June 13 through June 19, 2011, (23 incidents versus 24 incidents), compared to this same week in 2010. Crime is up 18 percent for the 28-day period compared to this same time last year (111 incidents versus 94). And crime is up 12.4 percent (605 incidents versus 538 incidents) so far this year, compared to this same time 2010.

On Saturday, June 18, at approximately 4:00am, 81st Pct police executed a search warrant on Gates Avenue between Stuyvesant and Lewis Avenues. Police recovered four loaded firearms, a "sizeable amount" of crack cocaine and almost $2,500 in cash. Three men were arrested. The bust was facilitated by a an outside tip.

On Saturday, June 18, at approximately 6:00am, two men  were arrested for their role in a knife fight on the corner of Lewis and Vernon Avenue. The two males reportedly were fighting over a woman; one man was her boyfriend, the other a friend. One confronted the other, and a fight ensued. Both pulled knives and caused injuries to each other about the head and chest. Police were called, and both men were taken to Woodhull Hospital in stable condition. Both men were arrested on assault charges.

**Police in the 81st Pct would like to announce that the Impact Zone has moved. Because of a reported spike in grand larceny incidents (mostly phone snatches and other electronic devices) around Brevoort Houses and Jackie Robinson Houses, the heightened patrol zone has moved from Lafayette Avenue between Marcus Garvey Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard down to Decatur and Fulton Street at Malcolm X Boulevard**
