Police Blotter: A Shooting and Three Robberies

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79th Pct has had a 40% crime increase last week (45 crimes vs 32 crimes). For the past month there has been a 13% crime increase (171 vs 151).

Crime increased 40 percent in the 79th Precinct (45 incidents versus 32 incidents) for the week of October 17 – October 23, compared to this same week in 2010. For the past month, crime increased 13 percent (171 incidents versus 151 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year.

On Saturday, October 22, at approximately 1:30am, a 19-year-old man was shot in his right arm in front of 995 Myrtle Ave. According to the victim, he was standing in front of the building when he heard shots ring out and was struck once in the arm. The victim was transported and treated at Kings County Hospital. An investigation continues by the 79th Pct Detective Squad.

Three Robberies:

On Wednesday, October 19, at approximately 10: 30pm a woman 30, was walking on Halsey Street between Marcy Ave and Tompkins Ave when an unknown male, described as black approximately 5'9 and 170 pounds, struck her in the face and grabbed her purse containing personal items. The man fled in an unknown direction. The investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesday, October 19, at approximately12:30am, a 20-year-old man was walking along Marcy Avenue on the corner of Ellery Street, when two young men approached him, displayed a gun and demanded his cell phone and wallet. The men grabbed the victim’s possessions and then fled the scene. The investigation is on going.

On Thursday, October 20, at approximately 7:45pm, a 17-year-old woman was walking along Park and Marcy Avenues and talking on her iPhone when an unknown suspect walked up to her, snatched her phone and then fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
