Good news for drivers: The price of gas drops 4 cents, and an even steeper drop is expected by summer

A big drop in gas prices is expected to come as early as June, and it’s already showing up at the pump in Bed-Stuy.

As of May 10, already the price of gas dropped 4 cents, from $4.23 just a few days ago back down to $4.19.

It appears as though economics is playing a role, as analysts are saying that the price of oil has dropped and the demand for gas continues to increase.

But one patron at the pump on Thursday said she believes that gas prices are all speculative and have very little to do with demand.

“A lot of it has do with what’s going on in the Middle East,” said the patron, who did not want to give her name. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the changing climate in the Middle East has something to do with it, because it's all speculative.”

Either way, right now the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is just under $4, and by June the price is expected to drop as much as 50 cents. That means a savings of around $189 million a day.

Finally, some good news for motorists in New York City.

Still, it's very early. So we’ll have to wait and see.
