Petro Patrol

The price of gas holds steady this week, hovering at $3.93 per regular gallon of gas.

Gas prices remain unchanged from last week to this week, holding steady at $3.93 for a gallon of regular gas.

But what does that mean? Probably nothing. Over the past four months since the beginning of our petro patrol, the price of regular gas has fluctuated up and down more than an elevator with 100 floors.

The cheapest prices in and around Brooklyn for a gallon of regular gas can be found at the GP Petro on 1990 Atlantic Ave & Ralph Avenue ($3.81) and the Hess stations on 1885 at Atlantic and Ralph Avenues and 801 Bedford and Park Avenues ($3.84).

According to CNN Money, Gasoline prices in the United States are actually much lower than in many countries. It may seem unbelievable, given the wallet-breaking prices of gas in the U.S. as of late. But drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

This disparity is attributed to government policies, which vary. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens.
