Despite having retired in 1997, former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason is still making headlines in the football world – only this time, with his cystic fibrosis foundation.

Tuesday’s UnitedHealthcare Empire Challenge all-star high school football game at Hofstra University will feature the Boomer Esiason Foundation, co-chaired by Esiason and his wife Cheryl. Their son Gunnar, now 21, was born with cystic fibrosis.

The 18th annual all-star game will pit 50 New York City players against 50 from Long Island, chosen by 10 coaches, four administrators and a game coordinator. Erasmus High School’s Dan Landberg will coach Team New York City while Lawrence High School’s Joe Martillotti steers Team Long Island.

An expo will be held before the game, as well as a tailgate party and raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the main gate of the James M. Shuart Stadium for $15 starting at 5:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live at 7:30 on MSG Varsity.
