LGBT Community Safety Night in Crown Heights

A press conference in response to the assault of Jabbar Campbell of Crown Heights

WHO: Representtives from the New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP), the Brooklyn Community Pride Center (BCPC), the LGBT Justice Project of Make the Road NY, Safe OUTside the System Collective (SOS) of the Audre Lorde Project, Streetwise and Safe (SAS)

WHAT: Press Conference in response to the New York Police Department (NYPD) assault of Jabbar Campbell in Crown Heights

WHEN: Saturday, January 26, at 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: Eastern Parkway Pedestrian Mall at Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, (3/4/5 trains to Crown Heights – Utica Avenue)

WHY: On Sunday January 13th, a member of the Crown Heights LGBTQ community was attacked by NYPD officers from the 77th Precinct. AVP and partner organizations are collaborating to bring resources to and increase our communities’ awareness of our rights and how to stay safe. The organizers will have Know Your Rights packets, resources on how to get support for violent incidents, and information about how to get involved with community lead initiatives to end police violence and all forms of hate violence against the LGBT communities.

WHAT ELSE: The Press Conference will be immediately followed by neighborhood outreach from Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue to Fulton Avenue and Utica Avenue to raise awareness about rights and safety for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people and all of our communities affected by this violence.
