House Hunt

Four fantastic open houses this weekend in Bed-Stuy

Whether you’re in the market for shopping for a home right now or just curious about what’s out there, every week, Patch will list a set of properties in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area holding open houses.

These free walk-through and guided tours of homes will give you a chance to see what’s hot and what’s not; develop your real estate sensibility; and learn about Bed-Stuy’s unique architectural fabric… At the very least, it is an exercise in comparison shopping.

1. The first listing is at  355A Halsey Street. The Penthouse is at the VYBE Condominiums which are FHA approved condos within one boutique  brownstone whose purpose is to provide a home that acts as a sanctuary ( your very own retreat amid the city noise). The Penthouse unit has a washer and dryer hookup, stainless steel appliances, exposed brick and a rooftop garden. All you need is to add your Bonsai collection and love.  $425,000. Nearby is the four star Zagat rated Saraghina Restaurant and the Brooklyn Library. The Open House is scheduled for Sunday February 27, from 1:00pm to 3pm.

2. The second listing is at 587 Putnam Ave selling for $649,000. This four-story, three-family brownstone has a new heating system and roof, a deal maker since both of those decisions are paramount for buying consideration. It also offers serious rental income from the other two family units, offsetting mortgage payments or allowing extended families close proximity.  Oversized windows with southern exposure offer views of a lovely Brooklyn block, with children playing on wide sidewalks. The Brownstone  is walking distance from Hattie Carthan Community Garden, Tomkins Park, Common Grounds and Brooklyn Public Library. The Open House is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm

3. The third listing is at 551 Lexington Ave is a detached townhouse with a lovely front porch painted colonial style blue and white, being offered for the price of a condo unit at $545,000. This charming townhouse is in good condition and move-in ready. Inside, the townhouse has been modernized with a designer kitchen, emphasizing clean lines and high ceilings, with attention to original details. It has two floors, approximately 1,750 square feet with a landscaped backyard. It is just right, not too big and not too small, a home that would feel exclusively yours since it is detached from any other buildings. This unit is within walking distance to Common Grounds, La Table Exquise French Pastry Lounge  and Tompkins Park. The Open House is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.

4. The fourth listing is at 432 Lexington Ave The well thought out two-bedroom rental unit creates income for this three-floor townhome, making this unit a compelling find. Its modern design, oversized windows with southern exposure,  large garden and parking garage, only add incentive to curious buyers looking for great Brooklyn finds. Grow your own garden and become part of the Green movement that is cropping up all over Bed-Stuy. Your neighbors are Hattie Carthan Community Garden and Magnolia Tree Earth Center. $560,000. The Open House is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, from  2:00pm to 3:30pm.
