Haute Holiday Glam

Quick makeup tips for New Year's Eve

You've got the perfect dress. Your shoes are to die for. You scheduled your hair appointment months ago. This is the one time when you are going all out to celebrate the beginning of the New Year-- and you have every reason to look and feel fabulous!

However, let's not forget the one element that will pull everything together and complete your look: holiday glam!

It's what's happening at the moment, and I'm going to tell you how to get it in no time without having to go buy anything extra.

Here's what you should do: The first thing you need to figure out is which feature you'd like to play up. Would you like to create a smokey eye? Or do you want to wear a dramatic lip color? Whatever you end up with, just remember to keep the opposite feature neutral. Strong eyes and lips can be a little over the top.

Should you lean towards a smokey eye, grab your favorite black eyeliner and smudge it across your top and bottom lash line. I prefer using an angled brush, however any small, tapered brush will do.

Add an extra pop by putting on a pair of false eyelashes and use a coat or two of black mascara. Use a nude lip gloss and a light blush and you're done in ten minutes.

Now, if you're one for a bold lip, you can never go wrong with red. Red lip color is a staple for this holiday season, and you have the choice of wearing a matte, luster, or gloss. Personally, I absolutely love matte red lipstick with a cat eyeliner on my top eyelid.

It's a very strong, yet subtle look that never goes out of style. Just remember to keep the eyes understated— eyeliner and mascara. What's even greater about this look is that it works with whatever you're wearing.

These two simple looks require very clean, minimal foundation and powder. As the evening progresses, your makeup will stay on longer without having to worry about reapplying. At best, you will have to touch up your lips every now and then.

Giving the perfect face on New Years is just as important as that dress or those shoes. And what's the point of having a fresh hairdo if your makeup isn't equally as fab?

If you spend at least 10 to 15 extra minutes in the mirror, I guarantee you will turn heads and have a night to remember! Happy holidays to you and here's to looking haute!
