Grab & Go Kids Planner

50 Degrees and rising, so grab the kids and go to Prospect Park for the Great Backyard Bird Count, catch the A train to Elmo at Madison Square Garden and jitterbug your way through the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the weekend.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

1. Elmo's Green Thumb

Where/When: Wamu Theatre, Madison Square Garden, 4 Penn Plz, New York, NY, Saturday , February 19, 10:30am and 5:30pm.

Why Go: The kids love Sesame Street, especially Elmo. So grab the kids and jump on the train to Madison Square Garden. They will be delighted, and you will become their hero during  the entire peformance. And who knows, you might actually enjoy the show!

Price: $20 - $40 

2.Purging at Still Hip

Where: 283 Grand Ave, Brooklyn, NY, Saturay, February 19- 20, 12pm

Why Go: To grab a whole bag of kids clothes for the price of one shirt! Still Hip is selling two size bags, one for $15 and one for $25. Buy the bag, then fill the bag (with as much as you can). Still Hip, carries all sorts of hip kids clothes, children's toys and a sampling of maternity wear. So, Grab it and Go, and don't forget the kids.

3. Summer Camp Open House

Where/When: Park Slope Day Camp, 339 8th St, Brooklyn- 718-788-7732, February 19,  1:00pm–2:30pm

Why Go: It's time to register for summer camp again! Spring is on the way and soon summer. So get a head start on summer camp preparations and attend the Park Slope Day Camp open house. You can bring the kids, they can mingle with the staff and fellow children to see if this camp might be a good fit. Transportation to most Brooklyn neighborhoods is available through this camp. Day trips to the beach, Prospect Park and Red Hook Pool are standard activities and this year, they are featuring a Circus Camp and a Sport Academy.

4. Lindy Hop, Jitterbug and Swing

Where/When The Brooklyn Children's Museum, 145 Brooklyn Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, Saturday, February 19, beginning at 1pm.

Why Go: You've taken care of business and now, you just wanna have fun. You have always wanted to learn to Lindy Hop and Jitterbug, so what better way than introducing your kids to it! Lindy Hop, Jitterbug and Swing are modern forms of African dance brought to you in this class, from the director of the Harlem Swingers, Clyde Wilder. It just sounds like fun!

5. Great Backyard Bird Count, Blue Herons and Sparrows

Where/When: The Audubon Center at the Boathouse, Prospect Park Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20 from 12pm - 3pm.

Why Go: Is there a Blue Heron in your backyard? Well, yes. A frequent nester in Park Slope, the Blue Heron is just one of the species of birds that you and the kids can help count, during this weeks session of Introduction to Birdwatching given at the Audubon Center at the Boat House. It's a lovely walk through the park and an educational experience that brings children closer to nature and helps them understand their relationship to conserving wildlife. Plus, it will help the Audubon Naturalist who are counting birds. The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent.
