Baby it's cold outside! Grab the kids and head out for crafty fun at the Audobon Center, storytime at Greenlight Book Store and the musical entertainment of the Iddy Biddies.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

1. Music and Storytelling by The Itty Biddies

Where/When: Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture, 10 Grand Army Plz, Brooklyn, NY, 718-230-2100 , February 12, 1:00pm-3pm

Why Go: Children love the music and storytelling of the Iddy Biddies who are well known all over the U.S. The kids stay entertained for two hours and you might just find yourself singing along too.

Where/When: Lefferts House at Prospect Park, 452 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, Saturday, February 12, 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Why Go: Kids love the Lefferts House, but once there you might find the second floor closed. Saturday the second floor is open for a guided tour. The kids will learn all about the families who lived there and how they lived, including the rope beds, hence the expression "Night Night Sleep Tight" (meaning, pull the rope tight).

3. Fresh Air and Nature Crafts

Where/When: The Audobon Center at The Boat House, 95 Prospect Park W, Brooklyn, NY, 718) 287-3400, Saturday and Sunday, February 12/13, 2:00pm–3:00pm

Why Go: The kids will keep busy crafting recycled and natural objects after you stroll them through the park to the Audubon Center at the Boathouse.

4.  Creatures from the Sea

Where/When: Brooklyn Children's Museum , 145 Brooklyn Ave, Brooklyn, (718) 735-4400 , Saturday, February 12,12:00am

Why Go: Sea animals live in the ocean? They do at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Bring the kids and discover the diversity that lives beneath the ocean at this delightful museum that creates interactive play-areas sure to give the kids movement, exploration and fun.

Price: $7.50 

5. Story Time at Green Light Books

Where/When: Green light Bookstore, 686 Fulton St, Brooklyn, 718-246-0200, Saturday, February 12, 11:00am-12:30pm

Why Go: Bring the kids out of the cold and into the cozy charm of, My Friend Maya Loves to Dance , read by the author herself, Cheryl Willis Hudson
