Go Jets!

Where to Watch the Game

Wondering where to watch the big games this weekend? Want to join other guys — and a comparatively small group of girls —  as they throw back beers and devour buffalo wings? Here is a rundown of a few places that will be showing the New York Jets vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. (Oh yeah, and the Packers vs. the Bears at 3 p.m.)

Amarachi Lounge

325 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, NY

This sexy, smokey-lit nightclub has a mystique all its own. Patrons feel like they’re chilling in the living room at a family function. And no wonder, the mini-living room by the entrance offers sports fans comfy couches and homemade-tasting food – the perfect settup for shooting the breeze with good buddies and a beer.

Denim Lounge

1223 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn, NY

This upscale lounge and live music joint has been around for a good while now, complete with banquet-style rooms, plenty of mirrors and a large dance floor. The glistening black bar, red scalloped banquettes, and scented candles are more Park Slope than Bed-Stuy. There’s a wall-size projection screen, perfect for watching the game.

Rustik Tavern

471 DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn, NY

347-406-9700

Located across from the Lafayette Gardens Housing Project, this mod, congenial bar almost seems in complete dissonance with the rest of the block. In the end it’s a welcomed oasis. Inside, the décor manages to be, like its name, rustic but totally comfortable. It’s the romantic feeling you imagine you would get spending the weekend in a log cabin tucked away in the snowy mountains of Colorado. Now sprinkle on top the spice of urban culture. The giant TVs make it a great destination on game nights.

Tip Top Bar & Grill

432 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11238

There's no menu, there's no way to predict when (and what) food is available at this grill. That lawless approach to customer service—and $3 beer—keep this bar-that-the-world-left-behind true to its roots. It's been in a townhouse basement on Franklin Avenue for close to 40 years. The warm and bassy jukebox plays Al Green; haggard chairs, old appliances, and junk are piled up to the very low ceilings; and a clientele of old-timers sip scotch around the bar. — Elizabeth Cline

Mullane’s

71 Lafayette Avenue at S. Elliot Place. (718) 797-7606

This bar is your best bet when it comes to sports in Fort Greene. Eight TVs will display Mark Sanchez in all of his maddening glory. The projection TV in the back is so big that you’ll feel like you can literally reach out and touch Rex Ryan’s wattle. There aren’t any specials going down at during the games, but the place has a full menu of bar food. The manager, Todd Sample, says you better get there early. “We’re full to capacity by halftime, we have to turn people away!” he said.

Moe’s

80 Lafayette Avenue at S. Portland Avenue. (718) 797-9536

If huge crowds aren’t your thing but cheap drinks are, then try Moe’s, which is right down the road from Mullane’s. The bar will have one projection screen set up, and a killer happy hour will go until 7:30 p.m. Here are the bargains: two for one draft beers, $6 frozen margaritas and $1 off of well drinks. Not bad at all. But look out for those Bears and Packers fans at around 6 p.m., they’re going to be pretty rowdy by then considering those deals.

Rope

415 Myrtle Avenue between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues. (718) 522-2899

Love football, but need a seat at the bar? will likely be the low-key joint in Clinton Hill during the game. The watering hole recently got a TV, so word hasn’t gotten out that the game will be on. Just one catch: Rope doesn’t open until 5:30 p.m., so don’t go there in the hopes of watching Jay Cutler throw yet another interception in the red zone. Instead, show up for the Jets game and take advantage of the happy hour that goes until 8 p.m. During that time, drafts and well drinks will only set you back $4.

Frank's Cocktail Lounge

415 Myrtle Avenue between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues. (718) 522-2899

For atmosphere, it’s always hard to beat , one of the classiest — but not pretentious — bars in Fort Greene. The joint will set up a projection screen on the stage in the back of the bar, so it should be easy to have a view of the game wherever you are. No special deals are on tap at Frank’s this Sunday, but you can bet on a good time, like always.
