WHAT: Not Just Hoops Community Exercise Program

WHEN/WHERE: Kick-off date is Saturday, June 9, and the next four consecutive Saturdays to follow, PS 28, 1001 Herkimer Street at the corner of Howard Avenue

WHY GO: Come exercise with the community and get to know other aspiring healthy residents in a supportive environment. for four Saturdays starting June 9th at PS 28 on Herkimer Street, corner of Howard Avenue.  The donation, ($4 per session) from this program will help support the upcoming six weeks Youth Basketball Program.  The Basketball program will start on Saturday, July 7th to Aug 12th at Marion-Hopkinson Playground located on Thomas Boyland Street corner  of Marion Street.

HOW MUCH:  $4 per session. The proceeds from this program will help support the upcoming six-week Youth Basketball Program, beginning Saturday, July 7th to Aug 12th at Marion-Hopkinson Playground.

 

WHAT: House of Art and Nu Hotel Brooklyn Present: “Art Reflects Urban Life”

WHY GO: Artist Justin Bua gives a visual presentation on The Beat of Urban Art: The Identities and Ideologies of Hip Hop, followed by a book signing of The Legends of Hip Hop

WHAT: Bed-Stuy Series Finale Concert: The Brookly Philharmonic, Yassiin Bey and the Bed-Stuy Tradition

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, June 9, 8 p.m., Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, 1368 Fulton Street, near Marcy Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant

WHY GO: A profound and authentic lover of language, renowned Bed-Stuy artist Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) is one of the most influential hip-hop stars of all time. He joins the Brooklyn Philharmonic in bringing together the aggressive energy and charged lyrics of American hip-hop, the classic ballads of legendary Bed-Stuy singer and activist Lena Horne and the revolutionary music of Beethoven, remixed anew by our very own Beethoven Remix Project winner DJ Eddie Marz. WHAT: SummerStage Outdoor Screening of Brooklyn Boheme and Live Performance by Talib Kweli

WHEN/WHERE:  Sunday, June 10, 7:00 p.m. concert; 8:00 p.m. film, Herbert Von King Park, Lafayette Ave and Marcy Ave

WHY GO: ImageNation is kicking off its 10th Annual Outdoors Festival with a screening of the highly acclaimed film Brooklyn Boheme in BedStuy, Brooklyn.  Presented in partnership with Summer Stage, the evening will also feature a concert performance by Brooklyn’s own Talib Kweli performing new music from his upcoming album Prisoners of Conscious and a question and answer segment with Brooklyn Boheme’s co-producer and renowned culture critic Nelson George.  Admission is free and open to the public
