Get Out: Von King Cleanup Day, Rich Medina and Sizzlin Saturdays at Rustik Tavern

It's supposed to rain all weekend, but so what?! Wash away those weekend blues and get out regardless!

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, September 23 – Sunday, September 25 at gallery locations all around DUMBO (see attached Map and visit their website)

WHY GO: The DUMBO Arts Festival is a feast for the senses that attracts 200,000 visitors over 3 days with the participation of over 500 artists from a variety of disciplines, 100 studios, 50 galleries and stages and 100 programming partners. Art revelers can enjoy: visiting artists in their studios or making murals on the street; musicians, dancers, poets, performance and circus artists throughout the neighborhood, on street corners, sidewalk stages and in the park; communing with instrument makers in workshops; hearing from tech gurus about the latest advances; and joining walking tours to hear city historians share little-known stories of the neighborhood.

WHAT: Herbert Von King Park Cleanup and Beautification Day

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, September 24 – Sunday, September 25, 10:00am – 4:00pm at Herbert Von King Park

WHY GO: Please come join the Friends of Herbert Von King Park for two days of park clean-up and spruce up. Any time you can give to the effort is appreciated - one hour, one day or both days. To sign up please click this link. They need gardeners, painters and sweepers.

WHAT: The Citywide High School Fair

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, September 24  - 25, 10:00am – 3:00pm, Brooklyn Technical High School, 29 Fort Greene Place, Bklyn

WHY GO: For all parents of eight graders, this may the most important thing you do for your child. This is a MUST ATTEND. All of the city’s high schools will be represented (principals and some of their current students). All will have tables set up and be available to answer any questions you have about their high school. THEY will try to sell their school to YOU. All you have to do is attend, listen and gather information

HOW MUCH: free

 

WHAT: Sizzlin’ Saturdays at Rustik Tavern

WHEN/WHERE: Saturdays, beginning at 9:00pm, 471 Dekalb Avenue (between Franklin and Kent Avenues)

WHY GO: Every week, Rustik Tavern brings new life to Sizzlin’ Saturday with an array of performances and DJ Hard Hittin’ Harry & Team Haitian All-Starz spinning live music. Fantastic food, drinks and a backyard terrace. Don’t feel like laughing, dancing, meeting beautiful people and partying your tail off? Then don’t go here, because that is all you will do at Rustik Tavern’s Saturday parties. DJ Hard Hittin’ Harry just has a way with livening up any room!

WHAT: Block Party at New Putnam Triangle Plaza

WHEN/WHERE: Sun, September 25, 12:00pm - 8:00pm, The Putnam Triangle Plaza located at Fulton Street  and Grand Ave (Clinton Hill, Brooklyn)

WHY GO: FAB Alliance invites you to a block party to celebrate the new Putnam Triangle Plaza at Fulton St and Grand Ave. The party will feature live music—including afrobeat, dub, rock and roll, church choirs, didgeridoo, and a set by DJ Rich Medina—salsa dancing, yoga on the plaza, games and activities for kids, interactive art projects, food tastings, and more.
