Get Out: Teen Family Day at Von King Park, Eco-Friendly Workshops and Juneteenth Festival

Great weather is on tap for this weekend, so Get Out, and enjoy some of these cool events in and around Bed-Stuy

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 2011, 5:00pm, Walt Whitman Auditorium at the Brooklyn Center Performing Arts Complex, 2900 Campus Road & Hillel Place, (the intersection of Hillel Place, Nostrand and Flatbush Avenues), Brooklyn, NY

Why Go: At the Youth Arts Academy, we believe a child’s imagination is vital to help ignite their artistic growth and creativity. For this reason, we stress the importance of imagination. It cannot be underestimated and should be encouraged in the arts. Children who are allowed to let their imagination go wild can think “outside the box” and become future innovators and leaders. Come join us and be inspired as each class takes us on a journey of imaginings. Imagine that?! For more information, please call 718-636-6969.

Why Go: The Vodou Bar is the only venue of its kind in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The sexy, yet relaxed, décor – reminiscent of the Caribbean – is envisioned by sought-after interior designer and architect Henry Mitchell. With names like “Temptation,” “Forbidden Fruit” and “Hell’s Fury,” our cocktail menu is specially brewed by Darryl Robinson, host of Cooking Channel’s “Drink Up” and one of New York’s most popular mixologists. The Sundae for Sunday party is hosted by party promoting veteran Karibi Fubara. Vodou offers ice cream specials infused with spirits all night, in addition to special drink items created on the spot. The crowd is beautiful, the music is hot and the vibe is nice! But be warned: On warm nights, it can get uncomfortably crowded.
