WHAT: Gordon Parks 100 – A Centennial and Rememberance

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, November 30, 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., Free Candy, 905 Atlantic Ave. 2nd Floor,

WHY GO: This coming Friday, November 30th, Photographer, Filmmaker, Musician & Writer Gordon Parks would have turned 100 years old. In recognition of this occasion, we would love for you to come and join the celebration. We have a few special artists showing their work and there will be light refreshments.

WHAT: Soul of Brooklyn Holiday Art Party

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 1,  12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. New Lots Triangle, East New York

WHY GO: Join us Holiday Art Party full of fun filled activities presented by Arts East New York in partnership with Soul of Brooklyn, featuring performances by the Arts East New York Young Artist Institute, Krik:Krak! Traditional Haitian Folktales with Jennifer Celestin, spoken word artist Eric Crow Draven, the Gershwin Middle School Band, the Gershwin Knight Marching Band, Pure Elements Dance Atlantic, Full Effect Gospel Ministry and more! Additional activities include complimentary refreshments, face painting, and giveaways and will be capped off by the Artsplosion Tree Lighting of the New Lots Triangle Christmas Tree and Toy Giveaway.

WHAT: PAL Youth Relief

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 1, and Sunday, December 2, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., MCU Parking Lot (On Surf Avenue & 19th Street) 

WHY GO: Heated Tent, Fun & Games, Arts & Crafts, Sports Activities (Soccer, Flag Football and more)

HOW MUCH: Free

 

WHAT: Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 1, 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

WHY GO: Music performances, films, community talks, hands-on art and interactive spaces, so much do to, see and experience at Target’s First Saturdays. This week’s special performance is Maya Azucena who will perform selections from her new album, Cry Love, at 7:00 p.m. To see the full schedule and lineup, go here.

WHAT: Youth Photoshop and Social Media Workshop

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, December 2, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza

WHY GO: Sign up now for this weekend's youth workshop and use Facebook and Twitter to impact your community! Lead by curator and filmmaker Nelson Nance, students ages 12-18 will learn how to create with Adobe Photoshop and use social media for the future. This event is in conjunction with MoCADA's current exhibition, NEWSFEED: Anonymity & Social Media in African Revolutions and Beyond.
