WHY GO: Ms. Stickney is performing a series of engagements in the Brooklyn area since moving to Hollywood 20 years ago. As a comedienne, Ms. Stickney has appeared on BET’s “Comic View,” NBC’s “Showtime at the Apollo,” MyNetworkTV’s “The Tony Rock Project” and the Essence Music Festival. In addition, she has appeared in a number of films, including “New Jack City,” “Malcolm X,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “The Inkwell.” In addition, Ms. Stickney and her brother Timothy — best known for his role as R.J. Gannon in the soap opera “One Life to Live” — recently created a professional experimental theater company.

HOW MUCH: Tickets are $20, $30 at the door. Food and drinks may be ordered from the restaurant’s menu. A DJ will be playing music after the 10 p.m. show.

WHY GO: For over 40 years, Dr. John has taken the exuberant and raucous sound of New Orleans under his wing, preserving its lore and channeling it through his own style of rhythm and blues. This spring, the good doctor comes to BAM with an extraordinary entourage of musical guests for an artistic residency, offering three distinct perspectives on his formidable career. In “A Louis Armstrong Tribute,” Dr. John leads an all-star celebration of New Orleans’ greatest musical son, Louis Armstrong. Featured artists include:Kermit Ruffins Rickie Lee Jones, Roy Hargrove, Arturo Sandoval, Blind Boys of Alabama, Wendell Brunious, Telmary Diaz, James Andrews

WHY GO: A.I.R. Gallery, The Rutgers Institute for Women and Art, and The Feminist Art Project co-present a discussion exploring the international feminist diaspora community in New York, with panelists Dr. Abena Busia, Chitra Ganesh, Kira Greene, Yulia Tikhonova, and Dr. Yasmin Ramirez.
