WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 1, 9:30am – 4:00pm, Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street
WHY GO: Join the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford Stuyvesant (CIBS) in partnership with Council Member Albert Vann and the Brooklyn Community Foundation for an all-day event that will bring together local residents, food justice advocates, urban farmers and gardeners, local businesses, schools, educators and community organizations to examine wellness and access to healthy foods in Bed-Stuy. Free and open to all ages!

WHAT: The Second Annual Kings County Tennis League Youth Jamboree
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 1, at the Marcy Playground, located at 764 Myrtle Avenue between Nostrand and Marcy Avenues. Registration begins at 12:00pm
WHY GO: A competition between youth tennis teams from Marcy and Tompkins Housing Projects. Others who would like to play or participate are invited. Trophies are guaranteed for the two top winners from each age group, although medals and goodies will be provided for most, if not all, who participate. The seven to eight tennis courts available also open up the competition to any kid in Bed-Stuy to play There will be a free barbeque, a DJ playing live music, a clown, face-painting and even a voter registration booth

WHAT: Vodou Bar and Rhum Barbancourt Present the Fight Hunger Fundraiser to Benefit the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 1, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Vodou Bar, 95 Halsey Street at Nostrand Avenue
WHY GO: Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger works vigorously to end hunger in the Bedford-Stuyvesant / Brownsville / Ocean Hill neighborhoods of Brooklyn. To do this, they provide emergency food, and other social services including Food Stamp screenings, Brooklyn’s only community focused urban garden and assistance with enrollment in publicly-supported health insurance. Their mission is to end hunger by distributing food and empowering families through information and support, which will give both strength and dignity to the community
